Joan Baez is a performer who always seems remarkably at home on the stage and in tune with her audience. At moments during the evening in Ventura CA, the performance felt less like a concert than a session of catching up on personal history with old friends in the kitchen. In Ms. Baez's case, that history spans three decades and her concert at the Ventura Theatre in December 1989, happened to coincide with the 30th anniversary of her first album. Coinciding with the release of her then latest album Speaking Of Dreams, Joan Baez continues to be a legend in so many ways, not only through her recorded legacy, but more importantly, as an enduring, positive influence on a human level for so many. The set mixes protest songs, folk songs and love songs, old and new, with requisite originals and previews of her latest work.
