Conceived in 1993 as a collection of duets featuring an all-star lineup including Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Seal, Sade, Janet Jackson, Aretha Franklin, and Bryan Ferry, this project was tragically shelved due to personal events. The tracks here offer a glimpse into what would have been an instant classic, with vocals in varying degrees of completion, all in studio quality. More info
In 1993 George Michael and his cousin Andros Giorgiou had an amazing idea - to create an album written and produced by George, with other major artists (i.e. Stevie Wonder, Seal, Janet Jackson) to record the songs. It was going to be a collection of duets, featuring George singing with several artists including: Seal, Sade, Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Bryan Ferry, and Elton John.
This project was called 'The Trojan Souls', and in 1993 Warner Brother gave George and Andros a million dollars to produce it. George spent countless hours in the studio writing and recording the tracks. The resulting work would have become an instant George Michael classic.
Unfortunately due to devastating personal events, George was unable to continue working and the project was shelved. While the instrumental tracks to each song had been completed, the vocals were left in various states. A couple were 100% complete, some had choruses, and others were left in instrumental form.
One of the songs - named "W.T.F." was to be recorded as a duet by George and Sade. It remained an instrumental with no vocals.
"Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" was intended as the lead single off the scrapped Trojan Souls project.
This is from the L.A Times dated January 24th 1993
